Two members of the public joined forces with a surfer yesterday afternoon, to detain an alleged thief until police arrived.
The boardrider chased down the 47 year old Byron man, after allegedly finding him stealing from his van at The Pass at Byron Bay.
Police later charged the accused over the incident.
He was refused bail in Tweed Heads Local Court today where his matter was adjourned.
