SOLID RESULTS IN FIRST QS EVENT OF THE YEAR

Soli Bailey’s 20-19 campaign is off to a solid start… He finished with a quarter final result, at the opening Q-S event of the year in Hawaii. Yesterday’s strong form didn’t follow on for the Byron Bay local, who couldn’t match it with Jack Robinson and Sebastian Zietz. He’ll now return home to continue his preparation ahead of the first world tour event on the Gold Coast.. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Kyuss King never got going at the famous pipeline break, only managing a combined 2-point-8 in his round 5 heat. (VISION ONLY)

BYRON BAY BOYS RIDE THE PIPELINE IN FIRST 2019 QS EVENT

After securing his tour card in Hawaii last year, Soli Bailey’s return to the North Shore is proving successful. Surfing in his first qualifying series event for the year, Bailey easily progressed. The 23-year-old blitzing the competition – with the heat’s two highest waves scores. Meanwhile, Byron Bay’s Kyuss King has also progressed into Round 5 of the Volcom Pipe Pro. The 18-year-old putting up two mid-range scores in his first ever pipeline event. (VISION ONLY)

COAST TRIO THROUGH TO QS FINALS

The Central Coast has three surfers through to the Finals at the Carve Pro at Maroubra. Shane Holmes threw down some power turns, to set up an epic quarter against Connor O’Leary. After his breakthrough victory on the QS at Port Stephens last year…Caleb Tancred is also in contention. While in the women’s event, Molly Picklum continued her stellar start to the year with a Round Four win….the 16 year-old saying Super Coach Glenn Hall has been instrumental. “I’ve been working on a few things with Micro back at home and competitive wise learning a lot and it’s really working for me.” She’ll face Holly Wawn tomorrow. PICKLUM CLAIMS GROM SEARCH TITLE

Up-and-coming Central Coast surfer, Molly Picklum, has made it onto the podium for the second time in less than a week. The Shelly Beach talent today claiming the Grom Search national title, in the 16 and Under division. It follows her win in event one of the Queensland Pro Junior series over the weekend. MIXED RESULTS FOR COASTIES AT GROM SEARCH

There have been mixed results for Central Coast surfers in the final stages of the Rip Curl Grom Search. Copacabana’s Olly Bolton and Shelly Beach’s Joel Barry were knocked out in round two of the under 16s boy’s division. While in the girl’s, Molly Picklum managed a two-wave total of 12.83 in the quarter-finals. The North Shelly boardrider nearly doubling her competitor’s score to secure a spot in the semis. JAMES McMORLAND WINS CATHO CLASSIC

He’s come close a few times but James McMorland has won his first Catho Classic. The Caves Beach local was the man to beat in Sunday’s six-man final, racing out of the blocks into a dominant position. Not that the surfers knew it – the scores are kept secret until the event’s presentation. Budgewoi’s Jamie Skillen pushed the result all the way, eventually finishing second, after McMorland found a ride in the closing stages, the judges awarding him a 9.3. Tyler Williams finished third, in what is the event’s 40th year. (VISION ONLY)
