Emergency departments at both The Tweed and Byron District Hospital will undergo a security audit, following talks between stakeholders and a number of health union representatives yesterday.
The roundtable discussion follows an incident at Nepean Hospital last month, where a police officer and security guard were shot.
The audit will examine how both hospital’s manage aggressive patients, as well as security staff numbers and liaisons with local police.
The audit will also recommend ways to strengthen procedures if needed.
