UNION SLAMS 46 RAIL REDUNDANCIES
The Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) has slammed the sacking of 46 employees from rail operator Pacific National’s Port Waratah based train crew.
The company cited the weakening coal market and a reduction on contractual agreements as a reason for the job losses, but the union says the numbers don’t add up.
RTBU says the retrenchments were “occurring at the same time as the company has been and continue to actively advertise for casual train crew to work through a labour hire company.”
The union wants Pacific National to do everything in its power to find alternate employment for the workers.
The rail operator says the redundancies would be both voluntary and forced.
