MAN REFUSED BAIL OVER COLD CASE MURDER

A man remains behind bars after facing court charged with the murder of a woman in the Hunter Valley in 1982.

64-year-old Rodney Lawrence was arrested in the Newcastle suburb of Stockton yesterday and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with murder.

The body of 31-year-old Elizabeth “Betty” Dixon was found in a car by a jogger in bushland at Ashtonfield in April 1982. She’d been stabbed to death.

Lawrence appeared in Maitland Local Court and did not apply for bail. His lawyer has indicated he will apply for bail next week.
