DAVID RIXON TO RECEIVE POSTHUMOUS BRAVERY AWARD
Tamworth police officer David Rixon, who died while on the job in 2012, will receive a posthumous Australian Bravery Award.
Senior Constable Rixon was shot during a routine traffic stop in March three years ago.
Despite being critically injured, he returned fire and arrested the man.
Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione says Mr Rixon was a deserving recipient of the award.
“Snr Cst Rixon died under tragic circumstances while protecting the community in what should have been a routine traffic stop,” he said.
“His death affected his family, friends, the local community, and the entire NSW Police Force; and today’s award is testament to the fact that his sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
