MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT OF 54-YEAR-OLD WOMAN

A 58 year-old man has been charged after the alleged aggravated sexual assault of a woman in Tamworth last weekend. At around 11pm on Saturday, Oxley Police were told a 54-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted at a home in Tamworth. It’s alleged the woman arrived home, and was detained by a man before being bound and gagged. He allegedly sexually assaulted the woman before leaving. The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Tamworth Base Hospital for treatment. Detectives later spoke with a 58-year-old man, who had made numerous attempts to contact and see the woman in the days after the incident. During a search of the man’s phone, investigators allegedly found videos of the woman filmed from outside her home without her knowledge. LEVEL TWO RESTRICTIONS ON THE CARDS FOR TAMWORTH

Level 2 restrictions could be just weeks away for Tamworth residents. Despite level one restrictions being put in place last week, there has been no drop in the amount of water used. “Daily consumption has remained above 40 megalitres a day, our target for level one is around 25 megalitres a day.” Tamworth Regional Council says the thousands of campers making the city home this week is NOT having a major impact on consumption. Rather, it says the biggest problem is locals trying to keep their lawns alive- and it won’t be cheap if they’re caught doing it outside of designated hours. “They’ll be fined $220, following that they can also have a water restriction device placed on their meter which brings their water flow down to about 3 litres a minute.” Chaffey Dam needs to drop just over 1 …

FIRE BREAKS OUT ABOVE SHOP IN PEEL STREET

Festival crowds were treated to a masterclass in emergency service response on Sunday night, when a fire broke out above a shop on Peel Street. About 8:30, smoke was seen billowing through the window of an upstairs apartment. With a crowd watching on, emergency services quickly entered the building and contained the blaze. “Crews were on scene within 5 minutes, and what we found was a smoke-filled room on the second storey, we found it hard to locate the fire.” Investigations are still underway, but it’s thought an electrical fault may have started the fire in the ceiling. STABBING VICTIMS STILL RECOVERING

Three people injured in Saturday night’s stabbing in South Tamworth remain in hospital. A 34-year-old man was flown to John Hunter Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, where he is now in a stable condition. Two women are also stable. The three were stabbed during a domestic incident at a home on Coorong Street, late on Saturday night.. A 21-year-old man has been charged. A forensic team spent yesterday sorting through evidence at the scene. (VISION ONLY)
