Police are appealing for witnesses, following the death of a 71-year-old man in a Mayfield home.
Just before 2pm yesterday, emergency services were called to Kerr Street, where they found the man with a gunshot wound to his chest.
The crime scene has been examined by forensic officers, but anyone who was in the area or who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Newcastle police.
