In a devastating blow to some visual arts students on the north coast, months of hard work has been destroyed, after thieves broke into their school and vandalised their HSC major works.
Students at Byron Bay High arrived today to find their works had been targeted during a rampage across the school grounds.
Police believe those responsible used a garbage bin to shatter a window and get into the building on Saturday night.
Two artworks suffered substantial damage – they were due to be submitted to HSC examiners today.
The works account for 50 per cent of students’ entire mark.
However the Board of Studies has released a statement saying “any students genuinely affected by misadventure will not be disadvantaged in terms of their marks.”
Windows, doors, computers and furniture in classrooms and staffrooms was also destroyed.
