TWO DEAD AND THREE INJURED IN BOXING DAY CRASH

Crash investigators are hoping to speak with three men who survived a double fatal crash the M1 near Mooney Mooney today.

Two men died and three were injured following the single-vehicle crash, which partially blocked the motorway, when their vehicle hit an embankment north of Jolls Bridge around 5am.

One man was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. A second man was trapped in the wreckage and also died before he could be released.

The driver, a 29-year-old man, and two passengers, aged 22 and 27, are believed to live in the Auburn area. They remain in hospital where they are reported to be in a stable condition.

The two men who died are yet to be formally identified; however, police have been told the man thrown from the vehicle was aged 31, while the second man was aged 22. They, too, are believed to live in the Auburn area.

Traffic was disrupted for five hours after the crash however south bound lanes of the M1 have now opened.
