Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce says $500,000 for extra CCTV cameras and security lighting is locked in and destined for Tamworth.
Mayor Col Murray says it’s another step in the right direction, as Tamworth continues to tackle its crime concerns.
“This is probably the first time in my experience that everybody’s running in the same direction, and we’ve got the state government working with us, we’ve got the federal government working with us. We’ve got the liquor accord really working and muscling up, the council’s certainly behind it.”
Mr Joyce says the funding, through the Federal Coalition’s ‘Safer Streets’ program, has been confirmed by Minister for Justice Michael Keenan.
“We live in a society where right across the world we’ve got these levels of behaviour happening around us, but I think Tamworth is going to be able to genuinely show some leadership in the solution.”
