STOCKTON RESERVE TO BE FENCED

A popular reserve on the Stockton harbourside is to be fenced off.
It’s been called the best seat in the house for RV owners, and revellers during Christmas and New Year and for a long-time Stockton’s Pitt Street Reserve has flown just under council’s radar as an unofficial free camp site.
But work is about to get underway installing 350 bollards and lockable gates.
Shrubs, trees, erosion control and historical interpretive sites are part of the plan, along with investigations into the expansion of the nearby tourist park.

  1. Well Stockton I guess me and probably a few thousand more RVers will just have to give you a miss and camp and spend our money elsewere. At least the caravan park owners will be happy.

  2. well i guess stockton is making enough money from other areas and dont need the many many thousands of dollars us rv,ers and campers spend.disgusting !!!!

  3. So obvious, The reason behind this closure is the caravan park owners have been complaining to the council.
Their logic, if we get the reserves blocked off then the RV campers will have to pay to stay on our grounds.
Whats in it for the council???? they lease the reserve to the caravan park owners and the council generates revenue.

GREED!!!!!! Councils need to rename themselves to governance CORPORATION just like the forestry commision did, now the forestry Corporation .

Its nothing to do with service people, its a business…..SHOW ME THE MONEY.

  4. Shame on the local Council and local Caravan Park who are responsible for the closure. Many people used this facility as a place to relax and spend their money on other tourist attractions and shopping in the Newcastle area instead of on steep Caravan sites. Most freedom campers are fully self-contained and do ot need to use the facilities of the Caravan Park so should not be herded into it. They will simply give Stockton and Newcastle the flick . Why are Caravan Park businesses protected like this, it is all of them not only the Council owned properties. Caravan Parks have priced themselves out of the reach of Mr & Mrs Average.
