More than 20 businesses in East Maitland were closed for several hours this morning after a gas line was raptured.
The pipe on Lawes Street was damaged during excavation work and nearby shops were evacuated as a precaution while fire fighters moved in to reduce any chance of ignition.
Roads were closed, causing delays, but were reopened to one-way traffic when the scene was secured around midday.
