FOX TERRIER REUNITED WITH RESCUERS AFTER CESSNOCK HOUSE FIRE

dogreunitedThere was a happy reunion this evening after a house fire in Cessnock.

The owner of the house was out when flames took hold of the Church Street home at around 10am this morning.

But 13-year-old pet dog Jenny ran back into the house after being frightened by the sirens.

Paramedics found the fox terrier had no pulse and with the help of a fire officer resuscitated the pet.

“We wrapped the dog in a blanket and drove her around the corner to the vet. Shane jumped in the back and was still resuscitating her,” Paramedic Wayne Garner said.

Paramedic Shane Peate said he and his colleagues had never resuscitated an animal before and so treated her like a human patient.

“We just went through our CPR drill and, thankfully, she came back. I don’t know if we did it correctly but it was a win,” he said.

Late this afternoon Jenny was reunited with her rescuers, and is said to be doing well.
