A man was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a tree at Lake Macquarie during a police pursuit early this morning.
Police were called to Teralba Railway station at around 3:30am after reports money had been stolen from a ticket machine.
Police started a pursuit with a vehicle seen in the area, which later left the road on Northville Drive in Barnsley, crashing into the tree.
The driver died at the scene, while a female passenger sustained injuries that are not considered life threatening.
A critical incident investigation has been established.
