COMMUNITY GROUP DISAPPOINTED AS HUNTLEE STAGE ONE IS APPROVED

After eight years of community opposition and Land and Environment Court action, stage one of a Hunter housing development has been given the green light.

The Planning Assessment Commission has approved the first part of the Huntlee project, near Branxton.

It will feature almost 1,500 housing lots, land for a primary school, and reserves.

The Sweetwater Action Group says it’s frustrated and disappointed by the decision, and is getting legal advice.

Among its concerns, a lack of infrastructure to support the development… and the group says the Commission ignored an invitation to tour the site and be shown the possible environmental effects.

Those behind the $1.5-billion development say they’re pleased with the decision, following many months of consultation with residents and councils.
