AMPHIBIOUS MACHINE REMOVING NOXIOUS WEEDS AT GATESHEAD

In an attempt to control and remove noxious weeds, a high-tech amphibious harvester is tearing through the choked Gateshead wetlands.

It’s being used to target infestations of alligator weed, water hyacinth and salvinia.

The work is expected to vastly improve the health of the swamp, owned by the Department of Lands.

Kim Hignell from Lake Macquarie Council today told NBN News, “when we first started there was no water exposed at all, no birds, wildlife, just a couple of days down the track, the birds are coming back, which is great.”

12 truckloads of weeds have already been taken to landfill, and there are another 15 loads to be removed.

  1. Tell me more about the harvester itself. I’m working towards the financing of some such device in Kenya.
