There’s been yet another malfunction at Orica’s troubled Kooragang Island plant, the second incident this week.
The chemical giant says ammonia vapour was released into the air when a relief valve lifted prematurely at around 7:30 this morning.
It follows an error on Monday, which saw ammonia leak from the plant for around 10 minutes.
The company says the faulty equipment has been removed.
Community groups are calling for stricter regulations after several incidents at the plant over the past two years.
