The Newcastle Jets have bolstered their midfield stocks with the signing of Adelaide attacking midfielder Zenon Caravella.
Caravella was Adelaide’s Player of the Year last season, and has signed on for the remainder of this season and next year’s campaign.
“I am really excited to be joining the Jets and grateful that Gary (van Egmond) has given me this opportunity during the season,” he said.
“I have always found that the Jets have a never-give-up attitude and I’m looking forward to being a part of this club and playing in front of the Newcastle fans.”
Jets coach Garry Van Egmond says Caravella is an important addition to the squad.
“We are really happy to acquire Zenon, not only for this season but for next season as well,” van Egmond said.
“Zenon will be a great acquisition because of his technical abilities and the way he works in a game but just as importantly, for his great leadership.”
The move heaps more pressure on captain and local product Jobe Wheelhouse who’s fielded interest from the Melbourne Heart and Central Coast Mariners. As late as yesterday, Wheelhouse was insisting he wants to stay on with the Jets.
