28 JOBS TO GO FROM SANDVIK’S HEATHERBRAE SITE

Sandvik Mining has announced 28 employees will lose their jobs from the Heatherbrae site in the Hunter Valley as part of its plan to reduce jobs across Australia.

Half of the positions will come from the company’s aftermarket operations, with the other 14 from the assembly operations.

“It has been a case of small numbers across a number of Heatherbrae divisions, and accordingly, the effect on each department is relatively minor,” said Frank Ryan, Sandvik Mining’s Vice President.

“Sandvik Mining’s action is a result of the recent downturn in the mining industry and in particular the coal market within Australia,” he said.

Most if the job cuts will be forced redundancies with only nine being voluntary.
