SCHOOLIES BALCONY FALL PROMPTS CHANGES TO ACCESS

Gold Coast schoolies could find themselves locked out of highrise balconies in the future after a 17-year-old girl plunged to her death.

17-year-old Isabelle Colman was alone before she fell from a balcony on the 26th floor of the Chevron Renaissance apartment complex in Surfers Paradise last night.

Organisers of the event say they’ll wait for the results of a police investigation into the death before making any changes to balcony access.

School leaver Shantelle Turner told reporters she was in one of the towers at the hotel when she saw the girl fall past.

“Everyone’s really devastated. I didn’t get to sleep at all last night. I’ve never seen anyone die before.”

Assistant Commissioner Graham Rynders told reporters the girl’s family was deeply traumatised.

“It’s been a very tragic night for all of us and has put a dark cloud over what has been a very successful schoolies event.”
