WORLD SAILING CHAMP DEFENDS TITLE

World champion sailor, Steve Brewin, has defended his A-class title at the Wildcat Regatta in Forster, finishing on six points after eight races.

Grant Pellew from Harken Australia placed second with 12-points.

In the F16 division, cousins Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darminian claimed the win with nine points.

Newcastle brothers Daniel and Nathan Van Kerckof came in second – a capsize at a crucial moment in the competition costing them the title.

Meanwhile in the Hobi 16s, Rod and Kerry Waterhouse sailed to first, ahead of current world champion Mick Butler and his crew member Rachel Bower.

75 catamarans competed in the three day regatta, which marked the start of the competitive sailing season.
