COUNCIL RATES SET TO RISE

Ratepayers in the Hastings and Macleay Valleys will have to dig deeper into their pockets this year, with both councils gaining approval for substantial rate increases.

Port Macquarie-Hastings rates will go up by just over 15 per cent, while Kempsey Council will secure an extra 11.37 per cent.

  1. Hi Lynn,
this is a ridiculous, unacceptable increase. we already pay in excess of Sydney rates and our water is unaffordable.
i am furious that the council keep taking from us. i understand there is a backlog of infrastructure repairs but i and many others cannot afford to pay anymore. we struggle as it is.
water rates are twice as expensive as Croydon in Sydney.
My mother pays $2 per kilolitre with no sliding scale.
We pay $2 for the initial amount and then $4 for the remainder. it doesn’t take long (the first quarter) before we are paying the higher amount.
our water rates used to be under $100 per quarter. our current rates bill is over $600.
it is getting to the stage where Port Macquarie is too expensive. we are paying all these rates and getting nothing for them. I understand that we are paying for the glass house but give me and my kids an aquatic centre or ocean pool anyday.
I know we will NEVER get these and would consider moving from here.
We get screwed for petrol, food, rates, water, gas, electricity and so on…..
I think 15% is absolutely laughable and inexcusable.
