TESTS RULE OUT RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL

UPDATED Samples taken from the site of the Pacific Highway upgrade near Port Macquarie have today ruled out a range of contaminants where it was suspected radioactive material was unearthed.

Several road workers reported feeling nauseous and vomiting earlier month but independent specialists have found no evidence of radioactive material at the site.

Work has been halted on the section since Tuesday, following the discovery of what could be the toxic remnants of a truck crash, 32 years ago.

The rig was carrying radioactive material.

On Wednesday NBN’s Dennis Driver spoke to Bob Higgins from the Roads and Maritime Service who said several workers were visibly sick.

“We had a number of the workers that felt a bit nauseous, there was some vomiting, obviously they were taken to the doctor, they are now fine but what we have done in that particular area is put in an exclusion zone to make it safe for everyone until we can actually find out what’s actually happened, what the material is.”

  1. It’s remarkable how easily led some people are. One whiff of a dead cat and everyone had a perfect compo claim.

  2. I think that’s a little presumptuous of you Ian…I’m pretty sure I would feel pretty sick if I had been working in an area for months & then suddenly the threat of radioactive waste exposure was unearthed…I think anyone would feel the same way!

The article also does not mention if the workers felt unwell before or after the find so perhaps those sorts of comments should be left untyped until you know a little more about what you are talking about!
