NORTHERN NSW FOOTBALL ROCKED BY RESIGNATIONS AND A SACKING

There’s drama at the top of Northern New South Wales Football, with directors Michael Gaertner and Bill Walker resigning, but giving no indication as to why.
It’s also been revealed CEO David Eland was sacked by the board late last week.
None of the seven zone presidents were aware of the decision, and they’ve been left amazed and mystified by the move, today saying Mr Eland had been doing an outstanding job.
There was also plenty of support for the former CEO on social media sites, with messages being posted throughout the day.
Neither Mr Eland or the federation would comment today.

  1. Well done to the Board, I say. It’s time that there is a major clean-out at NNSW Football, and it shouldn’t just be the CEO who is sent on his way. With the constant changing of local competitions, the demise of the State Youth League Competition, the insufficient support given to women’s football, the stuff-ups with whether players are suspended or not after accumulating penalty points, the fiasco over a 7 team NEW-FM competition next year and the ripping off of local players and clubs with fees now to be paid to NNSW Football for six-a-side competitions, it’s clear this overstaffed and dictatorial mob need to be sent packing. More power to the Board, I say!

  2. hope they clean up the appalling refereeing i seen in junior matches this year and get some real people doing fair and just work

  3. Great to see the NNSW board stand up for whats right and sack Eland. Since David Eland took the reigns NNSW Football has been nothing but bullying and appalling. The board need to ensure that NNSW gets back to serving the community. If you look on the NNSW Football website you will see that Eland has not met many of his KPIs which is one reason he should go and I can think of many more.

  4. People dont get sacked for no reason. I give full support to the Board and I believe that are doing what is right. Well done to Peter Morre and the board members that had the guts to do the right thing. I would also like to thank NBN for allowing to make comment as when I added a comment to the NNSW Football Facebook page in support of the board my comment was deleted. Whoever is adminstering their facebook page is keeping the comment in support of Eland and deleting the comments in support of the board. WHAT A BIASED VIEW!!

Neither Mr Eland or the federation would comment today” – They are basing this on what?

In the 2010 NNSW annual report he has stated the following “Strategic Goal: To be recognised and acknowledged as a responsible,
progressive and effective peak organisation, which acts in the best
interests of our Members and stakeholders and provides a clear
strategic direction for the sport of Football throughout Northern NSW.”

I can tell you now he has failed miserably in achieving that goal. This was demonstrated in his treatment of the State Youth League Competition, Women’s Premier League, the NEW-FM competition next year and as true believer stated the ripping off of local players and clubs with fees now to be paid to NNSW Football for six-a-side competitions. Now that’s alot of members who I can tell you now wouldnt exactly support Mr Elands actions being within their ‘Best Interests’.

Suck it up. He’s gone and not coming back.

Looking forward to a brighter and better future for NNSW Football.

  6. Well done – its about time. Its funny how most posts on ths website are supportive of the Board’s decision but on the NNSW site they are not. That’s because they have been deleting posts in support of the Board and only allowing those in support of Eland to be posted. Typical of the underhanded way they go about their business. It appears a great majority of the supporting posters are friends and family of a particular senior officer still at NNSW, hopefully he’s next to go!!!! As for the Board members who resigned – good riddance! Well done Peter Moore and the rest of the Board, keep up the good work.

  7. Ignorance may be bliss, however if you choose to make public comment at least make some effort to inform yourselves of the truth…alll too often in the football world individuals such as yourselves rage, guns blazing, with an armoury of little to no information. You are the narrow minded individuals, concerned with the smallest of pictures, that bring detriment to our game worldwide. Shame on you, may your time of judgment come and soon!!!

  8. It doesn’t surprise me that the many comments made by individuals supporting the Board are the same, from the same people, in all the the forums and news sites. It is evident that some out there are embarking on a campaign to support the Board and discredit David Eland. There points of view are without fact. Their arguments are emotional and emotive and it is obvious that they have a personal vendetta against David Eland. All the stakeholders being the 7 Zones and the NBN State League & New FM Club Standing Committees, the masses of clubs and grass roots individuals cant be wrong. The sooner Peter Moore, Greg Wilson, and most of all Richard Face are removed from our game the better.

  9. Craig Foster wrote an excellent Blog on the SBS website last year called “Greed poisons the game”. Look where the money comes from and where it goes. So another highly paid CEO bites the dust, boo hoo. Football players and supporters are being ripped off with high participation costs (now fees have been introduced to play in social summer competitions). Representative teams are attracting rich kids not the most talented ones. And all managed by State based administrations who are primarily interested in their own empire building capacity, don’t believe me?. Take a look at the increase in staffing at the Hexham NNSWF office and the associated costs. What odds on registration fee increases in 2012 ? Why does the beautiful game have a death wish in Australia?

  10. To FM, it doesn’t surprise me that the many comments made by individuals supporting David Eland are the same, from the same people, in all the forums and news sites! And is it a surprise that the posts on the Federation’s Facebook page (until they were deleted) were from family members and friends of one of the staff members at Hexham, plus supporters of one of the favoured State League clubs? To Frustrated, well said, mate. The office staff at Hexham are one of the reasons why David Eland should have been sacked. Anyone who has had the misfortune of trying to get a correct answer or quick action from the Hexham office would surely support the sacking.

  11. @Frustrated …… Craig Foster has been ‘tweeting’ this week that David Eland should be reinstated – he obviously thinks he is doing a good job!!!!

And if you think they are overstaffed – why don’t you go and count the number of staff at Football Victoria in comparison – for approximately the same number of registered players. And while you are there, just have a look at how much funding they get from the Government down there compared to what the NSW Government give.

  12. I fully support FM’s comments, yes the informed stakeholders fully support David Eland. For those who are happy to support the 3 board members, Moore, Wilson and Face look a little beyond your uninformed prejudice and ask a couple of simple questiones:
Why was the meeting called on a Friday for a vote, to be taken without discussion?
Why did 2 of the board members resign over the proposal and the third abstain from voting that is 50% of the board were not happy with the other members of the boards plan.
Why will not the board give a reason for the sacking.
Why wern’t the All the stakeholders being the 7 Zones and the NBN State League & New FM Club Standing Committees informed thet there was an issue with Eland.
For all of you that work for an employer would you be happy to move your family from Sydney to start a new career and by all accounts you are doing a good job then on a Sunday night you are handed a letter informing you that you are sacked, no reason given, we don’t like you. How would you feel if that happened to a co-worker, would you feel secure in your employment, would you trust your employer?
Those who condone the 3 board members should question their intregitery as doing what is best for the game, let alone what they do in their privete lives.
