Aspiring playwrights and actors might get their big break thanks to this year’s Short and Sweet Play Festival.
Backed by Newcastle Council, the festival is gaining international recognition and allows successful entrants to progress to performances in Sydney and Melbourne.
The challenge is to devise and act out a 10 minute play, and more than 60 were submitted last year.
Entries close in August with the best 10 to show at the Civic Playhouse.

I must admit upfront to having seen the Incoming short play along with several other excellent plays at the Short and Sweet Play Festival in Newcastle. The originality and delightfully ironic story of gorlllas aping the prejudices of humans in this short production, inspired my support for Short and Sweet theatre. Many other fine plays were evident there and in the Sydney festival, another great Australian theatrical initiative, well done to all budding playwrights and enmrging directors!!
