URGENT ACTION ORDERED ON NEWCASTLE REFUGEE HOUSING

An independent report has recommended immediate action over substandard refugee accommodation in Newcastle.
The federal government ordered an audit after several refugee families spoke out about the state of their housing.
Minister for Immigration, Chris Bowen, says the investigation raised some very serious issues about settlement services in the region, including the actions of contractors Navitas and Resolve FM.
He has ordered decisive action on what is described as an unacceptable situation.
That includes immediately relocating five families and assessing the suitability of all accommodation arrangements.
