NATHAN TINKLER RECEIVES A WARM RECEPTION AT MEMBERS MEETING

The people behind the Patrons Trust ownership model for the Knights will tonight make one last appeal to members, to vote against Nathan Tinkler’s privatisation deal.

But if last night’s Tinkler Group meeting was anything to go by, a majority now favour the mining magnate’s proposal.

  1. Firstly, I am not a member of the Newcastle Knights, but like many thousands of Novocastrians I am an avid supporter.

This club has, since it’s inception, been plagued by the continual absence of much needed finances, this problem alone has indeed placed this team over many years in dire straits, and will continue to do so into the future, despite the alternative of the Patron’s Trust, which will not guarantee anything past a short few years, when the same situation will again be presented.

I have a reluctance to privatisation, but I can see no other alternative to Nathan Tinklers’ offer, if this club is to be successful for the next 10 years or more.

It has to happen if we want to continue to have solid representation in the National Rugby League.

The Hunter has always been a great nursery for up and coming juniors, this deal will ensure that we will once again return to those days, that I can recall in my 73 years as a Novocastrian.
