NORTHERN NSW FLOOD ROADS UPDATE AND APPEALS 11AM

Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command Police advise that traffic conditions have changed again along the Pacific Highway.

The Pacific Highway is now open for all traffic travelling south of Grafton; however, the Pacific Highway north of Grafton remains flooded.

Heavy vehicles are no longer required to use the New England Highway and Bruxner Highway.

The nsw Public Information Inquiry Centre is open to take calls from the public about the flood affected areas in northern NSW.

Members of the public can contact the Public Information & Inquiry Centre on 1800 227 228 for the following information:

· Inquires regarding the safety of family and friends in NSW.
· General information evacuations and the locations of evacuation centres open.
· Road closures affected by flood waters.

The Salvation Army has called on the Australian public to donate cash, rather than goods, to their appeal for people affected by the QLD and Nth NSW floods.
Those wishing to donate to The Salvation Army Flood Appeal can do so online at salvos.org.au, by phoning 13 SALVOS (137258) or in person at any Woolworths or Big W store across the country. Donations are tax deductible.

St Vincent de Paul Society is seeking financial donations.

Vinnies says floods have damaged critical infrastructure, with some communities expected to be isolated for
weeks, so it’s not appropriate to donate goods at this time.

To make a donation to the Vinnies Flood Appeal, please visit Vinnies.org.au,
call 13 18 12 or send your donation to PO Box 5, Petersham NSW 2049.

  1. Julia Gillard is an Embaresmsnt for all Australians at this terrible time in Australia she is cold no empathy I do hope out of this tragedy that people can really see her true colors as a woman and a leader she is cunning and sly she plays the game she has only shown upp at conferences of Anna Bligh behaving as thogh she is a celbrity what a disgrace I hoppe people wake up and can see this so we can get rid of this cold hearted woman The witch of Australia

  2. It appears that Kay has a large chip on her shoulder with regard to her thoughts on Prime Minister Julia Gillards appearances in the media during these tragic moments for many Australian families. It appears to me that the prime minister has opted to take a less important role on this occasion and leave the pressing
decisions to be made by the professional people and authorities trained especially for these type of events. Qld Premier Anna Bligh is performing admirably under the enormous stress of the occasion. She does not need another politician to duplicate her thoughts and messages. Please lets not get into mud slinging matches while peoples lives and livelyhoods are at stake.

  3. Please ! Now abandon the A.B.N. and use the money to rebuild Queensland. We all have to change our budget plans as events dictate and as Queensland is a very important part of our National economy it’s imperative that we give that state our immediate support.

  4. Why arent we accepting help offered by other countries other than NZ? The Queen has made a personal donation after aided was knocked back from the UK. Maybe we could cope on our own and pull through this, but how much of a boost would it be to the moral of those affected, the workers and volunteers slugging it out against this disaster to see these people alongside. To me any inconvenience accomodating overseas help is far outweighted by the emotional benefits the country needs. Those flood affected (not just QLD) know they will be helped, they need funds, they need physical help to rebuild… they also need to feel they arent alone… the world cares, let them help. I for one would love hear a UK, USA (and all the others) voice say “good day mate” while picking up a shovel to sling some mud. We arent alone in this world on our island.
