A four-year-old girl is in a serious condition in Brisbane’s Royal Childrens Hospital after being attacked by her family’s labrador near Nimbin in far north New South Wales.
The girl was playing with the dog while it was eating last night, when it turned on her, biting off part of her cheek.
Neighbours say the attack was out of character for the dog, and while experts agree it was unusual for the breed, they warn no dog can be completely trusted.
“They are a wild animal, they might behave in a safe domesticated way but they are going to guard their food”
Neighbours say the family had just picked up the pet from a kennel, after being on holidays.
