  1. If it closes by midnight, go for it

We do not need another late night venue. that place looked nice and somewhere you would go early in the night

  2. Why are there always problems with nightclubs being too noisy too rowdy for the residents nearby? Come on if you want to live in the heart of town or in the city then suck it up. You dont live in the city for peace and quiet…really.

  3. It’s hardly located in a residential area there on Hunter Street, like Brooke said don’t live in the city for peace and quiet. I’d welcome another night spot in that area.

  4. There is actually quite a lot of people living near it (eg on king st) and people do live in the shops surrounding it

  5. I THOURT THE GOVERMENT WAS ABOUT BRINING JOBS TO NEWCASTLE SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM INCIDENTS IN NEWCASTLE ARE DOWN WITH THE RISTRICTIONS AND THERE MONEY IS THE SAME COULOR AS THE REST OF THE CLUBS THE GOVEMENT KNEW WHAT THEY WERE BUILDING AND HAD TO HAVE COUNCLE HAD TO PASS THE BUILDING INSPECTIONS SO THEY ALL KNEW LET IT OPEN IT IS SOUND PROOF AND WERE IS THE NEAREST RESIDENT GIVE IT A GO NEWCASTLE NEEDS THIS OR DO WE WANT NEWCASTLE TO BE A RETIREMENT VILLAGE

  6. The comment above is so filled with spelling and grammatical errors that its point is invalid.

  7. Bridget, clearly your a inner city snob and not the kind of person we want in the city or newcastle. Spell has nothing to do with anything

  8. The council needs to work WITH the club’s owners not against them. Patrons aren’t going anywhere and the council cannot think that slowing the opening down is doing anything constructive. Places are getting more packed and violence will get worst. Work together for a better solution for everyone.

  9. Has anyone else noticed how run down Newcastle is becoming?? Here we have people pouring millions of dollars and time into a building, seriously who cares what it is, anything is better than another run down building with homeless people or druggies to squat in. And if you live in the area that is what you will get if you keep opposing every decision in Newcastle.
As said above you dont live in a CBD for peace and quiet, if your going to oppose to decisions like this one and hold Newcastle back from developing you don’t deserve to live here. Besides if there are more people in the area the homeless won’t hang around as much.
Also said above, the government and local council had to be well aware of the building and future plans for the Kensington theatre as per the building inspections and authorisations. So why let someone spend millions then deny them the liquor license?? The government has clearly screwed these people over and the rest of Newcastle. What developer now will even consider Newcastle for anything, they will just get screwed over too and slowly every other building in Newcastle will fall apart too.
At least the Kensington is giving everyone a run for there money, they are adding class to Newcastle and competition to Fanny’s and King St, which could be a million times better, they just never needed to do it before.
Look at Surfers Paradise.. They have a great set up they have more pubs, clubs and cocktail bars in a smaller area than Newcastle will ever have and it works great. It just shows it can work and how great it can be when the Government is behind it.
If anyone is willing to buy into Newcaste and save even one building, i say let them! And if anything the people of Newcastle and the Government should put everything into it to make sure it works, because there is a lot worse then a nightclub and only good can come by Newcastle showing its support into businesses willing to open in Newcastle.

So why deny the chance for Newcastle?

  10. Thanks NBN for the report . The West End revitalisation is long overdue. The ‘future vision’ for Newcastle has been touted as a place where office buildings, retail, restaurants, nightclubs and residential apartments happily co-exist. The Kensington Nightclub proposes to lift the standard for Newcastle entertainment and could actually be a start to bringing reality closer to the urban utopia we so often hear about but so rarely see. Surely the licensing board should be supporting this application, not blocking it?

  11. Why are there constant disapprovals from utter morons in this city? People trying to ruin a great opportunity for a project such as this one… yet again!
I agree, people do not move into the heart of a city for ‘piece and quiet’. It is ‘the city’ after all. If you want piece and quiet there are plenty of retirement villages surrounding Newcastle and the Hunter, take your pick!
The Kensington Hotel would be a great addition to the nightlife of Newcastle. Whats so bad about one more venue for people to go and enjoy themselves at? It ticks all the boxes and will abide by the citys late night restrictions and lock-out times… I fail to see one valid point as to why it SHOULDNT be opened. Not only that, it is one less dilapidated, run down building giving our city a bad image.
Sure, there will be the occassional loud mouth drunk wallking the streets when the doors close for the night, but arent we used to this aready? Its the typical Friday or Saturday night for ANY city in Australia…
Licensing Board, open your eyes. Wake up and see the abundance in opportunity this club would bring to our city.

  12. I live In Newcastle Cbd about a block from The kensington and we are very excited with the new premises and welcome it Newcastle Needs some life as it looks like something from a Old west u can imagine tumbleweeds across hunter st the way it seems. The kensington is a breath of fresh air for Newcastle Entertainment we have so much talent here and the kensington is the begginning of something New cmon embrace change! NEWCASTLE DESERVES IT!

  13. Kensingtons license was revoked due to tony brown, nothing more nothing less. Who this guy is I do wanna find out & why hes such a big shot in Newcastle. The liqour license was over ruled by him & his pathetic out bursts. The liquor & hotelliers actually did want this to come to fruitation.

I dont see it as a problem to bring in a classy place into Newcastle, it will make it more tourist attractive & bring class into the place. I personally was hoping for a classy place to be created in Newcastle, someone else beat me to it.

  14. I GUESS THE PROBLEM IS THE CRIMINAL ELEMENTS BEHIND THE PROJECT WHO, ESSENTIALLY INVEST SO MUCH MONEY INTO A CLUB THAT THEY CAN SELL DRUGS FROM.
THIS IS THE CASE FOR A COUPLE OF PLACES ALONG HUNTER ST, AND THIS VENUE WILL BE NO DIFFERENT. IM SURE IF THERE WAS ANY TRUELY SERIOUS RESIDENT OR COUNCIL MEMBER THAT STOOD IN THE WAY OF THIS CLUB, THEY WOULD ,LETS SAY, BE COERCED INTO SHUTTING THEIR MOUTH.
