ROCK THROWERS HIT CARS, DISRUPT RALLY EVENT

A rally car has been been pelted with rocks, and the route has been blocked, during the first full day of the World Rally Championship round on the New South Wales north coast.

No drivers were hurt, but one of the stages had to be abandoned.

  1. What a load of rubbish, no rocks were thrown at vehicles; where is the footage as there were cameras covering the event. Jst so happens no footage gained. More spin by the WRC yet again- keep it up WRC your beginning to show what you really are-pathetic losers

  2. I drove through the area later in the day, it looked more like a Sydney train than the bush with all the graffiti everywhere, pure vandalism.

  3. re pure vandalism. mr jeffreys the people that live in the area of the race did not want the race. we wanted it to go away to an area more suited, like a race track. this is a rural RESIDENTAL area. some homes only 3 meters from the road edge. all our pleas for taking the race elsewhere have been ignorned. some became quite frustrated and yes someone has written on the road, but all the rest of the signage was on banners, and posters. mr jeffreys maybe you can suggest to your neighbours to have it run down your street. see if they like the idea

  4. Paint on roads compared to the rape of our environment by people with big toys. Havent you lot heard of remote controlled toys. You can roll them into the bush as well.
As for all the pro-rally propoganda being pumped out by WRC – the truth will be exposed for the manipulation it is.
    1. No rocks thrown- no footage or photography at all – strange as all vehicles have
cams. The driver has admitted it was lies, now its to convince him to speak up against WRC- understandibly this is tricky as his income through this toy play.
    2. WRC planted ring ins for photo purposes- waiting for cheques to come through before they fess up.

  5. My (support) car was damaged by rocks being thrown at it. The Moron hippy that threw them is now sporting a broken nose for his trouble…

  6. I was at Byrrill Creek on Friday to film the rally from the road bank near my driveway. After the rally was stopped I was told by the marshal that someone was lying on the road in the forest. Within half an hour at least five more rumours went around; rocks on road, cattle on road, logs on road, stones thrown at cars, fence across road.
I don’t believe any of these events actually happened, but officials were concerned that they were all possibilities considering there were a number of unknown people scattered along the stage through the forest. I believe that it was fear of the possibility of such an event that caused the stage to be cancelled.
The Repco organizers decided to run with the stone throwing story as it was likely to cause the most damage to the credibility of the protesters and would help distract attention from the bully-boy approach adopted by the promoters in the planning of this event. Their marketing team should be sacked for ‘incompetence in community relations’ for the community division they have left behind them.
In the words of Sebastian Loeb ‘What were they thinking sending us there’.

  7. Rape of our environment? Something tells me you and all the other people crying about the ‘rape of our environment’ wouldn’t be bothered if it was for an event you had any interest in. Rally cars (for the most part) race on dirt tracks and country roads, not on race tracks. If you had any idea what you were talking about then you might appear credible but instead you just come off sounding like a ignorant whingers with nothing better to do.
The WRC will be back, but it wont be as entertaining as watching you idiots get worked up about it.

  8. Fior that idiot Evans to say the Repco Rally would be envoronmentally friendly is akin to saying Hitler’s concentration camps were run humanely. You would have to have rocks in your head to think that scaring wildlife with loud noise is an acceptable practice, especially during their breeding season. Many of the species that live on the rally routes are nocturnal and they don’t need a bunch of professional hoons in fast niosy cars upsetting their sleep cycle. wake up to yourselves.

  9. Yes, there was rock throwers but more dangerously, idiots on the track trying to disrupt the event. For the spectators who HAVE video, the perpetraitors will be caught.

For those officials who are in charge of monitoring the event, a judgement call was made. Check youtube for what happens even to spectators who are there to watch and enjoy the event… accidents happen. If ‘locals’ will not obey directives, then that causes safety problems.

Sure, nobody wants it in ‘their’ back yard but wait until the government puts a highway through near you and the trucks blasting past night and day scares off animals permamently, then you have a right to complain. Having been involved with local wildlife animal care during my youth, please feel free to keep dribbling on about the ‘continued’ effect on the nocturnal animals. A few measely hours of racing and really, the impact was minimal to the environment and after looking at some of the rusty heaps that are called cars up that way, I really question the effect on the environment through out the year 😉

  10. I am a mother and hold a Bachelor of Education. I have a job and respect in my community.

Jabby – you are exactly the type that is UNWELCOME here – don’t you get it? I sense you are embroidering the truth when it comes to breaking someone’s nose. That’s even sadder than driving like an idiot.

A big thank you to Sebastien Loeb for coming foward and saying he won’t be back and understanding our arguments. Now hopefully your fans will follow.

To the rally driver in the orange car and orange suit doing doughnuts at the end of my driveway – you frightened my small children and our dog that ran away. I hope you enjoyed your Police interview.

To the practice car drivers – my neighbour, who was nearly ran off the road as three of you raced each other on BOTH sides of double lines on the notorious Clothiers Creek Road, hopes you enjoyed your Police interviews.

To the rally supporter who threw a rock at a protestor at Uki – go and hang out with Jabba, drink, act like a complete moron, hopefully break each others noses, SOMEWHERE ELSE. To the other supporters who shouted abuse and gave us the finger, I raise my pinky to you as a measurement of your manhood.

Rusty cars? Can’t you come up with something better? Pathetic that you smirk while you drive a constant stream of unnecessary new cars while our planet suffers from resource overuse? In turn it is your children who will suffer from your wasteful ways.

To anyone that supports holding a rally like this in an area such as this – if you really must have these events, take them elsewhere where the environmental impact is minimised, preferably another planet.

  11. What a small minded bunch these new blow-ins to the area are. Some people (a small but overbearing minority) fail to see the benefits a few days of inconvenience bring to the area! How many people now see – a few days after the event – “traumatised” wildlife. I have seen more animals killed in athe average day than during an event which employed personnel to keep wildlife safe!
As for the whinging “enviromentalists” who have seen the demise of the ongoing rural industies in this area just so they can enjoy their “new found freedom” I challenge them to put on the public rcord the number of generations they have had living in this area and the benefits they are bringing to this area….
I would imagine witht e effect of the economic downturn areas such as Kyogle is grateful for the public support from this event.
Myself I find the sight of a greenies saggy bottom (NBN News Sat 5th) and a Sydney “enviromentalist”- Ian Cohen MP – far more offensive than any race car – When I was younger that was public indeciency.
