MARYVILLE MARKETS UPDATE

A Parklea style market place is a step closer to being set up at Maryville.

Despite residents concerns a market would create parking problems and impact on local businesses, last night the Lord Mayor used his casting vote to support the project.

  1. I was very interested in the fact that Mr Tate is speaking publicly so positive about the proposed Maryville Markets when at the council meeting last night most councillors expressed their reservations at the proposal and only a controversial casting vote (Mr Tate voted twice) had the motion pass.
Furthermore 2 councillors were absent from the meeting, and a third councillor abstained due to a conflict of interest.
Let the proposal be fully investigated before getting too excited, issues such as traffic flow, parking and effects on local businesses.
Mr Tate then freely stated on NBN that up to 1200 jobs would be created, well how can jobs be created when these most likely will be Sydney weekend marketeers who already are employed. These markets will no doubt impact local business and already sucessful markets such as the Farmers Market at Newcastle Showground and the Olive Tree Markett at the Junction Primary School.
It all makes me wonder whether the playing field and the goal posts are in fact level for all players.
