POLICE HUNTING FOR GROUP WHO ASSAULTED AND ROBBED AN ELDERLY MAN AT BATEAU BAY

Police are looking for a group of men responsible for assaulting an elderly man at a Central Coast carpark.

At some time between 6 and 8pm on Friday 21 August, a 79-year-old man drove to a carpark at the intersection of Anne Findlay Place and Bias Avenue at Bateau Bay.

Police have been told he had arranged to meet someone there who he had met through social media.

Upon arrival, the elderly man spoke with a man before being pushed to the ground from behind by an unknown number of men.

It’s then alleged the group demanded cash and his mobile phone, before the elderly man tried to return to his car and leave.

They followed him and proceeded to punch and kick his vehicle before he drove away.

He attended Wyong Police Station and reported the incident.

He was uninjured.

Detectives from Tuggerah Lakes Police District want to speak to these men.

One is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 165cm-170cm tall, aged in his late teens to early 20s, with a slim build and short light brown hair.

It’s understood one of the other men was armed with a metal pole.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the nearby area between 5.30pm and 9pm on Friday 21 August, or who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is urged to contact Wyong Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
