Dixon Park locals say they woke to what looked like fireworks, after a car was set alight on Bathers Way.
Late last night, police were patrolling the area when they spotted a black Madza 3, which had been reported stolen.
Officers began a pursuit, which continued through several streets of Merewether and Hamilton, before ending the chase due to safety concerns.
They later found the car on the Bathers Way footpath, torched.
Resident Ty Penshorn recalled the moment he found the car alight.
“We saw the flashing lights of the police in the middle of the night and we looked out our window and we thought it was fireworks, because it’s so hidden by the bushes here, but yeah surprised it’s a burnt out car on the Bathers Way,” he said.
No one has been charged.
