Newcastle Lord Mayoral hopeful Jeff McCloy is taking up the cause of the city’s netballers, on the vexed issue of parking.
Council’s plan of management for National Park proposes a phasing out of parking on the grassed banks of No.1 Sportsground.
“Of course it forces them onto the streets. We try to work in harmony with the residents and it will certainly impact on them.”
“That decision will have a major impact on the streets, the netball community, long-term tourism and it just doesn’t make any commonsense whatsoever. It’s something that should be reversed by council.”
Mr McCloy is also lobbying to do away with all paid parking in the city on weekends.
