It was an event Julian Wilson wasn’t even supposed to surf in but after defying the odds – and the pain barrier – he’s won his first Gold Coast crown.
Wilson badly injured his shoulder in a mountain-bike crash in Newcastle earlier this year but didn’t put a foot wrong, back in the water.
