DRUG LAB UNCOVERED IN NEWCASTLE

A man has been charged after a clandestine lab was discovered at a Newcastle home yesterday.

After receiving a tip off, officers from the Newcastle City Proactive Crime Team searched a home on Marton Street at Shortland, about 2.30pm, where they spoke with a 40-year-old man.

When inside, police allegedly found a large number of chemicals and equipment consistent with the manufacturing of prohibited drugs.

A crime scene was established, and specialist police from the Drug and Firearms Squad’s Chemical Operations Team were deployed to examine the property, which is currently in the process of being dismantled.

The 40-year-old man has been charged with manufacture small quantity prohibited drug and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today, where he was formally bail refused to reappear at the same court on Monday.
Investigations are ongoing.
