BIG SWELL POUNDS COAST

A big swell along the New South Wales coast has already started having an impact.

All of Newcastle’s patrolled beaches except Stockton were closed to swimmers this morning, while the first scheduled dive on the former HMAS Adelaide off the Central Coast was cancelled.

The New South Wales Maritime Authority has issued an alert for boat skippers and rock fishermen.

The three-metre swell is expected to last until Sunday.

  1. I’ve been documenting strange wave action at Avoca Beach since two days after the Adelaide dumping. Today waves were breaking out over the site. It is a pity no beach process scientists have been seen as I thought the Uni was interested in this experiment.Waves are breaking towards the sharktower where Professor Goodwin predicted wave refraction from this huge object so close to the beach. The fact that no one did any near shore research or beach process in situ research but took the word of local dive business and CCARP again local dive operators that this site was appropriate is disturbing.
The Coastal Protection Act has been ignored in this debacle.
Also locals are finding sponge padding and polystyrene on the beach. Why is not CCARP out there cleaning up their mess?
