MAN DIES AFTER CRASHING INTO RIVER

A man was unable to be revived after his car crashed through a barrier and went into the Wyong River last night.

Police say the 69-year-old was travelling at high speeds when he left River Road around 6:20pm, officers were quickly on the scene with one jumping into the water in a vain rescue attempt.

It took authorities nearly one hour to recover the body and attempt resuscitation.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.
