MID NORTH COAST BLUEBERRY FARMER FINED
A Mid North Coast blueberry farmer has been slapped with a $13,000 fine for serious breaches in record keeping.
The Federal Circuit Court today imposed the penalty against Gurmakh Dosanjh, a farmer at Sandy Beach, following legal action by the Fair Work Ombudsman.
In 2014 inspectors discovered that records of 60 casual employees was limited only to their first names and how many buckets they picked.
Dosanjh also breached workplace laws by failing to issue employees with pay-slips within one day of being paid.
Most of the fruit-pickers Dosanjh employed were young overseas backpackers in Australia on the 417 working holiday visa, many from non-English speaking countries.
