Well known Newcastle cinema identity and former city councillor Margaret Goumas has died suddenly overnight.
Margaret and her husband Theo operated several cinemas in the city for over 40 years and were probably best known for their Showcase cinema which offered alternative and art house entertainment.
The Showcase cinema was forced to close in 2008 when developer GPT purchased the site.
Margaret and Theo were honoured just last year for their contribution to the industry, receiving the Motion Picture Benevolent Society’s Pioneer Couple of the Year awards.
