Tamworth’s long-awaited police dog squad is expected to hit the beat by Christmas.
In January a permanent officer was selected for the job and since then has been undergoing canine training in Sydney.
The unit is expected to be operational by the end of the year and will play a pivotal role in police operations during next year’s country music festival.
The dog squad will also be used in the Barwon and New England Local Area Commands.
