McKAY SEIZES ON CRIME STATS

Minister for the Hunter Jodi McKay is applauding Newcastle’s tough stance on alcohol related crime and late night trading after the release of the latest crime statistics.

All major categories fell or remained stable in the two years to September.

The biggest improvements for the Newcastle Local Government Area were in armed robbery and break and enters.

The results are similar for the Hunter region.

Ms McKay said the report showed that 17 out of 17 categories fell or remained stable in the two years to September 2010 across the Newcastle Local Government Area and across the Hunter.

“This is further proof that the work of our local police is continuing to have a significant impact on crime in our community,” she said.

Newcastle
• Assault (domestic violence related) down 15.9 per cent
• Robbery with a Weapon down 57.3 per cent
• Break & Enter Dwelling down 17.7 per cent
• Break & Enter Non-dwelling down 24.6 per cent
• Malicious Damage to Property down 10 per cent

Hunter region
• Robbery with a Weapon down 47 per cent
• Break & Enter Non-dwelling down 17.8 per cent
• Assault (domestic violence related) down 11.6 per cent
• Steal from Motor Vehicle down 9.5 per cent
• Break & Enter Dwelling down 7.5 per cent
