MYUNA BAY SPORT AND REC CENTRE GETS A NEW HOME

The Myuna Bay Sport and Recreation Centre is being relocated to a new purpose-built home at Lake Eraring.

Origin Energy agreed to foot the bill for the multi-million dollar new facility, after its predecessor was abruptly shut down in March 2019.

The decision was made due to risks posed by the nearby Eraring power station ash dam in the event of an earthquake.

Lake Macquarie Mayor, Kay Fraser, said the centre is an important recreational facility that holds a special place in the hearts of people from across New South Wales.

“I am so pleased to hear that future generations will be able to experience all that Lake Macquarie has to offer from a new, modern sports and recreation facility with direct water access. Whether that’s attending sport development camps or sporting competitions, or visiting for a weekend escape, school camp, or seniors’ programs, I can’t wait to see how the new facility showcases our City’s natural playground,” Cr Fraser said.

“We’re really keen to see the NSW Government fast-track the planning and construction of the new facility, and it’s important that, together, we create momentum from today’s announcement.”
