KNIGHTS WIELD THE AXE FOR PANTHERS CLASH

Knights coach Nathan Brown has swung the axe after his side’s loss to the Rabbitohs. He’s made four changes ahead of Friday’s clash with the Panthers – the biggest, Brock Lamb returning at halfback. Josh King will start at prop, while Danny Levi and Luke Yates have been named on the bench – co-captain Jamie Buhrer is among those dropped. The coach admits Newcastle’s effort against Souths was simply not good enough.

MITCHELL PEARCE EXPECTED TO MISS 16 WEEKS

Knights officials say scans have confirmed that Mitchell Pearce suffered a ruptured pectoral muscle in last night’s win over the Tigers. He’ll see a shoulder specialist this week to arrange surgery and is expected to be sidelined for approximately 16 weeks. Also last night, the Cowboys edged out the Titans, while Newcastle’s fill-in halfback set up the winning try in the dying stages.
