A major regional employer at Scone has confirmed it’ll shed 158 jobs.
Scone abattoir owner JBS will scale back operations at the plant from a double to single shift from next month.
The move will affect 15 local workers – the rest being labour hire or working visa positions.
The company says its focus has always been on retaining local jobs, but it’s had to reduce operations due to a decline in the supply of livestock.
JBS took over the Upper Hunter abattoir early last year, from previous owner Primo.
