LAKE MACQUARIE’S AWABA HOUSE SET TO RISE FROM THE ASHES

A year after it was gutted by a ferocious fire, moves are underway to rebuild Lake Macquarie’s historic Awaba House.

The council has floated concept plans to not only revive but enhance the Booragul landmark with an outdoor dining terrace, kiosk and restaurant, linked by a covered walkway.

It says the design follows extensive community consultation since the fire last August.

The plans will be on display until mid-September.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Kay Fraser said the project would deliver a more vibrant outdoor dining experience, creating a major drawcard for visitors and locals alike.

“We need to make the most of this prime location and enhance the experience for those visiting our City through a contemporary, vibrant and engaging design,” Cr Fraser said.
