INVESTIGATORS INSPECT FERRIS WHEEL

Air safety investigators have travelled to the scene of yesterday’s crash at the Old Bar Beach Festival, where a light-plane hurtled straight into a ferris wheel.

Two children, aged 13 and 10, miraculously escaped injury as the plane hit the structure just metres from their dangling carriage.

They endured a frightful wait as rescuers brought in a crane to reach them.

The aircraft, being flown by 53-year-old local man Paul Cox remained precariously perched on the ferris wheel.

The pilot, and his 32-year-old passenger John Rowen were freed from the wreckage after almost three hours.

The 80th anniversary of the heritage-listed Old Bar Airstrip was being celebrated as part of the annual long-weekend festival.
