After the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, Australia worked on an early warning system to prevent a similar disaster on our shores. The $68-million system was rolled out last October, and now Port Macquarie emergency services have learnt how to get the message across.

FEDERAL FUNDS FOR BLACK SPOTS

$500,000 in federal funding has been allocated to eliminate black spots on Coffs coast roads. Five areas, including the intersection of Hogbin and Hi-Tech drives at Toormina, will receive raised median strips and illumination. Pedestrian refuges will be built at the intersections of Hogbin Drive and Boultwood Steet in Coffs Harbour, and at the intersection of Bowra Steet and Wellington Drive in Nambucca Heads.

GLASSING AT COFFS PUB

A man has been been airlifted to Sydney suffering a serious eye injury, after being glassed at a Coffs Harbour hotel. The 26 year old, who had a splinter of glass in his eye, is being treated at the Sydney Eye Hospital. Police say the man was sitting in a beer garden at the premises on the Pacific Highway, when he was allegedly attacked by a 35-year-old Coffs Harbour man, who sustained a serious injury to his hand which required surgery.
